Frequently Asked Questions

  • How much does MásPaz cost?

MásPaz is free. You can download it and start using it immediately.

  • What is MásPaz for?

MásPaz facilitates calling to action when witnessing a criminal situation, a health crisis, a fire or any emergency where help is needed immediately. MásPaz users who receive alarms know whose, when and where the call is. They can respond appropriately and in coordination.

MásPaz also allows to draw attention to a place. These alerts call for precaution and observation as opposed to the immediate action urged by alarms. Just like alarms, users who receive the alerts know whose, when and where the alert is.

  • Who receive alarms and alerts you send?

Every member of every group you are in receive your alarms and alerts, regardless of the event’s location.

  • What are group zones used for?

Alerts located within a group zone will make a sound when received. Alerts located outside all of your group zones are received silently and displayed on the map.

  • Why is the mobile number verified?

Users identify each other using mobile numbers stored in their address books. Mobile number verification stops malicious users from impersonating others.

  • What are the groups for?

A group brings together people who trust each other, act collectively and are working toward safer places to live, work and study.

  • What is a group administrator responsible for?

An administrator serves its group: managing, caring and promoting it. To perform this, administrators are the only users that may invite and remove members, or promote users to administrators.

  • How are group administrators appointed and removed?

The user who creates a group automatically becomes its administrator, and may promote other members to become administrators. An administrator can be removed from the group by any other administrator.

Every group decides how to appoint and remove its administrators.

  • How many administrators should a group have?

A group should always have at least one administrator. However, two (or three) administrators are best in case one becomes unavailable.

  • What are the technical requirements to use MásPaz?

MásPaz requires Android 4.4 or better and an Internet connection.

  • How much free storage is required to install MásPaz?

MásPaz requires less than 25MB to install.

  • Why do some phones ask for (much) more than 25MB to install MásPaz?

Your phone is asking for storage to install pending updates to other applications.

This happens when a mobile phone has been running with insufficient memory and has been unable to automatically update its applications.

  • I have an iPhone or Windows Phone, can I use MásPaz?

Presently, MásPaz works only on Android. Other mobile OS will be supported in the future.

  • Can I change my mobile phone and keep my user?

Yes, as long as it meets technical requirements to use MásPaz. After you verify your phone number, all your groups will be available.

  • Can I change my mobile number?

Your MásPaz user is identified by the mobile number verified during instalation. MásPaz continues to use the verified phone number even if you change you phone number.

However, if another person obtains your original phone number, installs MásPaz and verifies your old mobile number, that person will assume your old user and remain a member of every group you were a member to. Additionally, your MásPaz will no longer work because the user no longer belongs to you.

For this reason, whenever you change your mobile number, it is important to notify your group admins to remove your original user and invite your new user with its new mobile number.

  • Our group wants to share information with police or private security services. It’s possible?

Yes. To do so, the police or security service must have MásPaz and be accepted as a member of the group.

We’re working on a mechanism that will allow even better forms of collaboration, including sharing events with other groups.

  • Why are there ads?

MásPaz must be usable for free, so everyone can participate. Ads makes this possible by providing revenue to fund development and operations.
